IVERSEN, Kirsten (née Dyhrberg) 1952-2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kirsten Dyhrberg Iversen of Hudson, Quebec. With her husband, son, and daughter at her side, she passed away on October 8th at the age of 71 from complications following surgery to treat stage IV peritoneal cancer.

Kirsten was born in Padborg, Denmark on March 8, 1952, to Jens and Marie Dyhrberg, and was the youngest of three children. She always spoke fondly of her early years growing up in Denmark, from playing outside with her friends, going to school, enjoying her parents’ summer house by the ocean to spending any free time she could with family.

She married the love of her life Ejgil Iversen in 1975 and moved to Canada shortly after. In 1976, she welcomed her son Mark and in 1980 her daughter Tammy. In 1983, Kirsten, together with her husband, started a successful wholesale company importing giftware from Denmark and selling it to retailers across Canada. Eventually she retired, passing the baton to her son in 2014. In 1999, the family moved into her dream house in Hudson with its beautiful grounds filled with trees, flowers, and wildlife. Her home was her absolute favorite place to be, and everyone was welcome.

Her retirement years were filled with countless cruises, and trips to Europe, Australia, and North America. However, coming home to family was the most important to her. Visits from her daughter, dinners with her son, breakfasts with her sister and countless meals with friends and family were what she loved more than anything. She was the most incredible mom, always patient, loving, empathetic, understanding, and was always there to listen, validate and offer her wisdom and advice. Spending time with her 3 grandchildren, Mia, Jake, and Masen was at the top of her priority list. She was an excellent “Mormor” and “Farmor”; playing board games, tobogganing, basketball, walking, swimming, talking, and just sitting on the floor doing whatever her grandchildren wanted was what she treasured most.

She had an incredible knack for entertaining and setting a table. She always made everything feel incredibly “hyggeligt” with lit candles, coffee, sweets, napkins, and flowers. Kirsten was a kind, compassionate, selfless, positive, and strong person. She and Ejgil had so many incredible friends here in Canada, the US and overseas. Her social calendar was always full. In the past years she discovered her love of water colour painting and thoroughly enjoyed attending painting classes with her special painting group. Throughout all the years living in Canada she traveled back to Europe visiting family and friends almost every year. The annual cousin parties held in Denmark were always the highlight of her trips back home.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, Ejgil; children: Mark (Natasha) and Tammy (Curtis); grandchildren: Mia, Jake, and Masen; brother, Leif and sister, Lis as well as her nieces, nephews, numerous relatives, and incredible friends.

A special thank you goes out to the medical team at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital for their skills and tireless efforts trying to help her body heal after such an invasive surgery (CRS-HIPEC).

Her tender heart has touched so many lives, please join us while we gather to celebrate the life of this incredible woman.

We had the honour of working with Kirsten and her lovely family. Another incredible bright light snuffed out by cancer. The sentiment above could not be better written it described Kirsten to the “T” . Glad we had the honour to cross paths with this beautiful woman and her family . Sadly missed Tamie and Gus

Not withstanding the fact that we lost contact over the many years we lived here in Montreal, we vividly remember the time when both, Kirsten and Ejgil’s daughter as well as our son who were both born in 1980 and where Kirsten would meet at our home when we lived in Beaconsfield.
Ironically when we see her picture in this Obituary this is exactly how we remember her. From what I can read it also confirms to us that she always maintained a positive outlook on life with a personality which is simply exceptional.
It is unfortunate, that we did not make an effort to contact the family again after we returned from Switzerland, but this is life where we seem to be always busy with whatever is coming our way.
We take this opportunity again to express our sincere condolences for a loss which never can be replaced. May she rest in peace.
