HARLAND, Sydney Allan 1950-2022

Sydney Allan Harland, affectionately known as “Syd” died peacefully February 28th, 2022 as a result of covid.

He was born November 23rd, 1950  in Westmount, Qc, the only son of William and Margaret Harland (born Muir). From the very beginning, everyone knew there was something special about Syd. Precocious and busy as a child, Margaret and his sister Sandra (Wattling) had their hands full keeping him away from peril.  An engaging storyteller as an adult, he often recanted his many escapades with even him wondering how he made it through them.

Sydney was married in 1977 to the love of his life, Betty-Anne Harland (born Soucis).  Together they had two children, Michael and Betty-Anne.  Sydney and Betty were married for 45 years.  He was a devoted husband and excellent provider, ensuring his family had everything they needed to thrive.  Unfortunately Michael passed away in 2014, which was the single biggest heartbreak of Sydney’s life.

Despite all of the trials in his life, Syd’s charisma and sense of humor were contagious; he was always the biggest personality in the room.  If you were with him, regardless of the situation, you were surely going to have a great time.  Sydney had many jobs in his years spanning many industries, but his biggest accomplishment came when he became an entrepreneur.   A big believer in Dale Carnegie, he demonstrated in his life that a positive attitude and unstoppable work ethic can give you the life of your dreams, which he enjoyed to the very fullest.

Sydney is survived by his wife, Betty Harland, daughter Betty-Anne Zeman, her Fiance Michael Keon, grandsons Fynnigan, Maconnell and Brennen, Granddaughter Kylie, his sister Sandra Wattling (born Harland), husband David, and nephew William Wattling.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the CHSLD Rigaud for their acts of kindness and care during Syd’s stay and during his last hours. They are also thankful for the love and support they have received from friends and family during this very difficult time as well as the many others that have been so kind since his passing.

Sydney, you know that you were truly one of a kind and will be missed by everyone you ever touched in your lifetime.  You helped and inspired dozens of people to make their dreams their reality and never give up, even when the chips were down.  You will never be forgotten and your spirit will live on through your many friends and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to: https://gofund.me/fa23ffeb .  This gofundme supports Sydney’s best friend.  Syd would have helped him if he could have, and this would be a wonderful way to celebrate Sydney’s life.
