Brenda Irene Trerice, 70, passed away peacefully with her two children by her side at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence in Hudson, Qc, on June 29th, 2018, at 12:12pm. Brenda is predeceased by her parents (Nelson W. Trerice and Doris Moss) and her four siblings: Evelyn (England), Douglas (California), Candy (Port Moody, BC) and Patricia (Chatham, ON).
Family and friends will remember Brenda’s gentle kindness, razer sharp wit, often entertaining life stories, deep well of creativity, commitment to helping others and her voracious appetite for reading, learning, writing, sharing and teaching. Brenda was also an articulate advocate for human and animal rights. To be sure, her kind heart, intellect and sincerity will continue to shine on through her children.
Brenda’s two greatest sources of pride are her extraordinary children: Jesse E. Trerice (b. 1976) and Lauchlan E. Langford (b. 1986; m. Danielle Taylor). Jesse inherited her Mother’s integrity, love of all things wild and an inherent northern pointed compass; she lives in Whitehorse where she is the director of an advisory board that functions as the primary instrument of salmon management in the Yukon. Lauchlan inherited her pragmatism, joy of travel to hot and interesting places and the Trerice aviation gene. Lauchlan has travelled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean; he has lived in Lithuania and Sint Maarten, and after much focused determination he now enjoys a career as an airline pilot based out of Calgary where he lives with his beautiful wife.
In addition to being a nurturing, compassionate and wise mother Brenda was also a dedicated health professional. Her career as a Registered Nurse spanned nearly 30 years, during which time she worked in hospitals in Ontario, northern Quebec and Nunavik with positions and responsibilities that ranged from General Duty Nurse, hemodialysis specialist, hospital board member to coordinator of the Elder’s home in Kuujjuaq. Throughout her service as an RN she brought healing and comfort to those fortunate to be in her care.
Jesse and Lauchlan wish to extend their appreciation to Dr. Laviolette at Hawkesbury General Hospital for going above and beyond in the delivery of excellent care to Brenda. They would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to the exceptional staff and volunteers at the Palliative Care Residence for safeguarding their Mother’s comfort, peace and dignity in her final living days. The team’s compassionate care and support went a long way in calming Brenda, Jesse and Lauchlan. In addition to the wonderful human resources, the tranquility of the grounds and their immediate proximity to the soothing sights and sounds of nature was a blessing and appreciated greatly.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly requested to be made in Brenda’s name to Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence Foundation (https://www.mspvs.org/en/donate/) Amnesty International (https://www.amnesty.ca/donate) and/or Lee Hall (Lawyer and Animal Rights Advocate) (https://www.patreon.com/leehall).
A private gathering will be held this fall (date & venue TBD) for family and friends to celebrate Brenda, and her remarkable life.
