Jim died peacefully at St. Anne’s Veterans Hospital in his 88th year. Jim conquered many serious illnesses with courage and insurmountable strength. The last battle was not to be won – there was a higher power. Jim was born in Glasgow, Scotland and as a young lad during World War II he served his country in the British Royal Navy and ultimately The
Merchant Navy. Jim and his wife Irene were together for over 50 years and life took many twists and turns. They finally got it right and stood as one.
Jim loved his vacations in Florida, U.K. and our beautiful Laurentians where his step-son Alan Critchlow made sure he enjoyed lots of excitement on his boating expeditions. There was never a dull moment. So many quiet hours of reflection at our ‘’special’’ place on the lakeshore.
Fun times with friends at our legion in Lachine where Jim was the life and soul of the party. He loved to dance, sing, (never remembered the words) as well as his Saturday afternoon dart challenges and golf. His greatest bonus in life was our grand-daughter
Sydnie who told him daily how much he was loved. During these painful times a true star was born. With every shoulder rub, hug, and soft words of encouragement, Martine
showed a strength beyond comprehension. Our little family is now strong. Kudos to the magnificent staff on 3B at the Vets Hospital. I am sure you will all miss his beautiful smile and magnificent blue eyes. We will too. You helped Jim maintain his dignity to the end. Bless you Robert Sim for your sincerity in friendship and looking out for our wonderful veterans. Funeral private.
A memorial service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Lachine – date not yet determined. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to The John McCormack Music Fund, Veterans Hospital, St. Anne de Bellevue, QC.
