MURRAY, Steven Gordon 1942-2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Gordon Murray on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie Lantin. He was an incredible father to his adoring daughter Sharon (Theo) and he was affectionately known as “Papa” to his cherished granddaughter, Megan (Sean). Predeceased by his parents, Estelle Remon and Gordon Murray and his brothers, Regis and Vernon, he leaves to mourn his sisters, Monica and Reina as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He departed this world peacefully, surrounded by his family, leaving behind the enduring memory of a genuinely kind, generous, strong and courageous man with a heart of gold who loved his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.

Known to his closest family and friends as “Stevie” or “Steve”, he was a straight-shooter and a man of integrity who would help anyone who was in need. He will be best remembered for being the life of the party with his quick wit and his unique and distinctive sense of humor. An accomplished lead singer and guitarist in his younger days, accompanied by his band, he entertained to capacity crowds in the dance halls of the time covering the rock n’ roll hits of the 50s and 60s before discovering his true passion, Country Music. From that point on and throughout his life, he devoted himself to that genre, covering such artists as Buck Owens, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard and of course, his all-time favorite singer, George Jones. Steve was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed fishing and bowling, but his true passion was golf. He enjoyed following professional sports including football, baseball and hockey and was a life-long Boston Bruins fan.

The family will welcome family and friends to receive condolences in the presence of the ashes on Friday, June 14th, 2024, at 10:00 am at Saint-Michel Catholic Parish in Vaudreuil-Dorion followed by the religious service to be celebrated at 11:00 am. A private burial service will take place at a later date.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff at Hôpital du Suroît, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield: Dr. Michael Buck, Chief of Hematology-Oncology, the Oncology Team and the ER Team for their excellent care and compassion throughout this journey. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the CLSC Vaudreuil-Dorion for their kindness and gentle care during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Myeloma Canada would be greatly appreciated.

    Dear Cousin Family
My condolences to each of you. May you rest in peace Stevie and be dancing, singing and playing music amongst the stars. I only had the pleasure of meeting my cousin Stevie on his visits to Chandler, however I still remember him with fondness. So interesting to read about his successful life and all the accomplishments and love he had. At same time as I read about his music talents, I got a call from one of my granddaughters, she received the music award today. I’m thinking a Murray gene passing on. Thinking of the family during this time. Hugs Iris Murray Deline (Raymond and Gabriel) daughter.
