MIDDLETON-HOPE, Constance (née Mackay) 1927-2024

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the death of Constance Middleton-Hope of Hudson, QC, on November 7th 2024, at the age of 97. She leaves behind her dear friend Ann Cruickshank as well as three children, John (Debbie), Robert (Georgina), and Louise (Daniel). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Michael, Jodie, Joffrey, Ryan, Matthew, Jessica and Christopher, and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Louise Terrillon-Mackay, her nephew Francois, and her nieces Isabelle, Jacqueline, and Claire-Marie. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Clark Middleton-Hope.

Starting at a very young age Constance was a pioneer in her field, paving the way for herself as well as the many women who followed in her footsteps. Dr. Constance Middleton-Hope taught History at MacDonald High School, obtained her Master’s Degree and became Vice Principal at Sunnydale Park, later becoming the Secretary General of the Lakeshore School Board. She was the first woman Vice President of the Superior Council of Education and Assistant Director of the Conseil Scolaire de l’ile de Montreal. She moved on to be the founding President of the Auberge Madeleine, a shelter for homeless women.

She spent a lot of her time working with the Anglican diocese of Montreal and the Christ Church Cathedral. She has an honorary Doctorate from the Montreal Diocesan Theological College of McGill University.

Constance loved life; she loved to travel and well into her 90’s was still volunteering at the Maison de Soins Palliatifs Vaudreuil-Soulanges in Hudson. She also loved to spend her time in Florida volunteering to walk the shelter dogs, always with a cookie in her pocket.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Maxwell Residence in Baie-D’Urfé as well as the Manoir de l’Ouest de l’Ile in Pierrefonds for the love and care that they provided.

A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church, 261 Main Road in Hudson, on December 7th 2024, at 2pm.
