MARTIN, David 1932-2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Martin on March 18, 2024. Predeceased by his loving wife Barbara, father to Mavis (Alex), Carolyn, Jeff, Stephen and Cynthia (Larry), beloved Jampa to Chelsea, Evan, Aly, Zack, Jaime, Paige, Megan, Nathan and Zadia. Great Jampa to Sam, Juliet, Sofie, Eleanor, Arlo, Shany, Kingston, Sadie, Jayden, Jace and Sky.  He is predeceased by his siblings Derek and Judy.

Born in Quebec City on Aug 16, 1932, where his family settled several generations earlier, he attended Bishops College School and then the University of Manitoba, where he met and married Barbara Ann Fairfield. He had a long and distinguished career in personnel management. They moved to Montreal in 1957 and then to the Hudson area in 1968, where they lived at Cedar Cottage, Woodside, Misty Meadows Farm and 122 Pine Ave.

Dave enjoyed sailing, horseback riding, choir, tennis, golf, skiing, cycling with their great friends in their biker gang, and traveling. As snowbirds they wintered in Arizona and explored the southwest & Mexico in their beloved camper van. They spent many years in historic Prescott Ontario where they kept their sailboat in the harbor and enjoyed sailing the St Lawrence Seaway. They were long time members of the HYC and were delighted they could enjoy sunset on the terrace when they moved back to Hudson in 2018 and rekindled old friendships. He was an active member of St Johns Anglican Church in Prescott and St Mary’s Church in Como.

David was a true gentleman who was eager to help others. He passed along his sharp wit, sense of humor and sparkling blue eyes to his children. He is dearly missed and will be fondly remembered by everyone touched by his presence.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Many thanks to Judy, Wanda and Betty from Nova Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the incredible team of Nova Hudson would be appreciated.   www.novahudson.com

Jim and I had the pleasure to share many happy times with both Dave and Barb. They were the most delightful couple always willing to try new things. We were always impressed by Dave’s sailing skills. The memories we shared will always be treasured.. indeed a MARVELOUS man.

My condolences to all family and friends. Dave had a full life with a wonderful family. He was very active, and there was always laughter in the air. He will be missed, but his spirit lives on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences on behalf of our entire family. Dave Martin was a dear dear man and my parents David and Margaret loved their parties with Barbie and Dave. I know you are grieving and please be kind to yourselves. The aftermath (as I am learning) is a real time of reflection and sorrow (for me hopefully not you all) and I send all of you so much love. Gosh, we are so lucky to live in Hudson and have this thread that runs through us. May he rest in peace with his beautiful wife. They are together now.. XOOX Nicola
