YELDON, Roberta Joan 1960-2021

Peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the age of 60. Daughter of the late Patricia Kealey and Gerald King. Beloved wife of Gregory Yeldon. Cherished mother of Allison (Oliver Platzen) of Hudson, Christopher (Madeline Bongers) of Ottawa, Ontario, Sean (Allison Milne) of Ottawa, Ontario, Erin of Wallace, Nova Scotia, Kelsey of Fernie, British Columbia, and Liam of Hudson. Loving grandmother of Josephine, Elias, Freya, Beatrice, Caspar, and William. Dear sister of Kathy McSheffrey (Jim), Caroline Casey (Bill), Geraldine Low (Philip), David King (Heather Riopelle), Michael King (Paula), and Maryanne King (Paul Conlin).

Roberta was an adoring wife, a devoted mother, a loving grandmother (Mango), a soul mate to many, a dear friend to everyone she met. The breadth and scope of her caring and generosity were enormous, from her beloved town of Hudson, to her hometown of Ottawa, to her special Cape Breton Island and beyond. She was a saint walking amongst us. Her faith was her foundation, so we will gather and collectively celebrate her life with a Memorial Mass at a later date this year.

Family and friends may pay respects below. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish on Monday, March 29th at 4 pm. A live-stream broadcast of the mass will be available on the Parish’s website.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Pure Art Foundation, a cause ‎dedicated to children and families in Peru that was very dear to Roberta’s heart.    www.pureartfoundation.org/robertayeldon

Greg, it is truly difficult to express to you and your family the deep sense of grief we feel for your loss. Roberta, was one of the warmest and caring people that both Bonnie and I have ever met. Her compassion for everyone and everything around her was so evident every time she was in our presence. She was one of those people who would come across the room to say hello and share her endearing smile. She was the essence of motherhood and her children were truly blessed to call her Mom. We are deeply sorry for your loss and offer you and your children our thoughts and prayers. She was a lovely lady who will never be forgotten. God has a new angel by his side, but one who was taken far to early in life. Please accept our prayers and sympathy.

    Greg and family,
Roberta touched our lives in so many wonderful ways. I could list stories about this but so could everyone she knew. She was the kindest and pure of heart person I can think of. I feel that the planet has lost one of its brightest lights but heaven has gained an angel. Praying for you all as you find your way through this unthinkable loss. Danielle Dave and Clarissa Steele

My sympathies to the entire Yeldon family. Roberta was my fellow anglo on the comité d’ecole at St. Thomas many years ago. Even years later when I would meet Roberta in the village, she was always smiling, and bringing me up to date on her children and grandchildren. We were all fortunate to know her

Dear Greg and family. Owen and I extend our deepest sympathy on the loss of a very special wife, mother, grandmother and friend of everyone. Roberta has left us with the hope that we will appreciate others by showing warmth, kindness, compassion and empathy with a focus on behavior that is morally and ethically right. She has left an indelible mark of positivism on her family, her friends and all who came in contact with her. May God support you through your grief knowing that Roberta is in Heaven with Gary, Joan, Theresa and other family.

Dear Greg and family. Please accept my sincere condolences. How terribly sad. The Yeldon and King families were some of my most favourite memories of my years at St Pius in the 1970’s.: .your and Roberta’s basketball coach, Roberta babysitting my little ones, attending your wedding etc. And the awesome siblings you both have. Words don’t suffice Greg. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Mike Baine ( “Coach”)

    Dear Greg and Family,
Please accept our sincerest sympathy on behalf of myself and all of the Bartolomucci Family. For those of us who were lucky enough to have Roberta, even a small part in our lives, she always inspired us to be a better person through her kindness and care for others. Roberta had a beautiful soul which was visible to all of us who spent any time with her and we will cherish that time in our memories. We pray that in time the pain in your hearts may lessen.

  • Laura Pfeiffer – Part 1 Posted 26/03/2021 12:42 pm

My heart is broken for you Greg, Allison, Christopher, Sean, Erin, Kelsey, and Liam. I have so many cherished memories of Roberta, an angel walking among us. She was tireless; constantly volunteering in the kids’ schools (I still use the pasta spoon that she sent me home with after a spaghetti dinner), organizing dinners for friends who were sick, and anything else that was needed. She was the foundation of our coffee group of about a dozen young moms and many more children! She offered us a wealth of advice, support and always a sweet treat! She was the first to soothe a crying baby at the same time as telling us a hilarious story!

  • Laura Pfeiffer – Part 2 Posted 26/03/2021 12:43 pm

She was the most selfless person I have ever met. I once asked her how I should go about decorating a birthday cake in the famous Roberta style and she told me to come over with my cake and a pound of butter and she would guide me through it. Not only did she decorate the whole cake beautifully, she sent me home with a loaf of banana bread! And as I was leaving she reminded me that two of her kids had birthdays in the same week! Of course Berta put the need of a friend before her own.
The loss that the community feels is nothing compared to your own, but please know how treasured she was and how fortunate so many of us feel having the privilege of occupying a place in her heart.

  • Francois Major Posted 26/03/2021 3:02 pm

  • Liz (Jeffrey) Murphy Posted 26/03/2021 3:05 pm

Dear Greg, and the rest of the Yeldon and King Families,
I was shocked and saddened to learn today of Roberta’s sudden passing from a former colleague at Pius. I coached Roberta on the Junior Basketball Team at Pius back in the 70’s but remember her vividly and that beautiful smile which is so evident in the lovely photos you shared. She was such a positive, upbeat young lady. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to you, your children, and grandchildren who have lost such a treasure too soon.

Yeldon and King families we are sadden for your loss…Berta was a great lady. She was one of those people you meet and 10 minutes later it was like you knew her your whole life. She was always helping or giving to others. Whenever she went she seemed loaded down with goodies for others (Martha Stewart could of picked up a few tips from BERTA). Her children all have her kind and giving way about them. It has been our pleasure to meet her and her family..

It is with such a heavy heart that I send my deepest condolences to the Yeldon family. Roberta was such an inspiration to all who knew her. We met when our kids were little and we volunteered together for kid related events over the years. When I think of Roberta I think of her smile, her generosity, her energy, her willingness to always be the first to volunteer, to give her time to anyone in need of it. She made you want to be a better person. I am so happy to see that her children have adopted her spirit and kindness. She has left a little sparkle in everyone that she has touched and I am so grateful to have had the chance to spend some time in her presence.
