It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christopher James Wilkin, who passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the age of 79, at the Lakeshore General Hospital, surrounded by the love of his three daughters.
Chris is survived by his loving wife Sylvie LaFontaine, his daughters Vanessa Wilkin (David Carani), Erika Wilkin (Andrew Di Sarro) and Kristen Wilkin, his stepson Pierre-Antoine Pinard (Lorena), his cherished grandchildren Emma Marie Carani and Matthew David Carani as well as by his brothers Timothy Wilkin (Diane), Andrew Wilkin (Barb) and Ian Wilkin. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, his extended family members and all of his dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Chris was born on June 16, 1947, in Montreal, Quebec, to Pamela Mary Hill and James E. “Dan” Wilkin. He grew up in Beaconsfield, Quebec, where he developed the adventurous spirit and love of the water that would become hallmarks of his life. He spent most of his adult life in Hudson, Quebec, a community he loved dearly and was proud to call home.
Chris was known for his brilliantly sharp mind, fast wit, and infectious sense of humor. He had a remarkable ability to find laughter in any situation and make those around him smile, whether through a perfectly timed joke, a great story, or a little harmless mischief. Always thinking ahead, Chris was prepared for just about anything. It was no surprise to find pylons, coveralls, and every imaginable tool tucked away in his truck, ready for whatever challenge the day might bring.
His warmth, generosity, and gift for bringing joy to others touched everyone who knew him, even in his final moments. Chris found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially time spent in Spanish Wells, Bahamas, with his beloved wife, Sylvie. They treasured their home there, the stunning beauty of the islands, the friendships they built with the islanders, and the many adventures they shared on the water. Throughout his life, Chris was happiest on a boat or on a ski slope, creating lasting memories with the family and friends he loved most.
Above all, Chris was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His daughters were the pride and joy of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He celebrated their accomplishments, supported them through life’s challenges, and loved them unconditionally. It was fitting that in his final moments, he was surrounded by all three daughters, who remained faithfully by his side.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in the countless memories Chris leaves behind. His laughter, wisdom, adventurous spirit, and unconditional love will continue to live on through the family and friends who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
The family would like to sincerely thank Nova Hudson, Sunrise of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Danielle de Jonge, his loyal caregiver, Lisa Creagan, and everyone else whose friendship, humour, and support brought him tremendous joy and comfort throughout his final year. Chris will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends once arrangements have been finalized.
