It is with heavy hearts that the Kilmartin family announces the passing of Dr. Patrick Edward Kilmartin, on Sunday September 20th, 2026, in Pointe-Claire, peacefully and surrounded by his family. He will be remembered by his wife of 36 years Sylvia Rassi, his children Keira Kilmartin (Nicholas Memmer), Caitlin Kilmartin (Arvin Ighani) and Meaghan Kilmartin as well as by his family in Ireland and the UK.
Patrick was the second of five children born to his parents Patrick and Mary Kilmartin. He was raised on their family farm in Kilteevan, Co. Roscommon, Ireland. His life’s work as a physician began at University College Cork, Ireland, where he studied medicine and graduated with the class of 1972. His medical practice brought him first to New Brunswick, and then to emergency medicine at Lakeshore General Hospital and his longstanding family medicine practice in Pointe-Claire. Along the way he pioneered the first airport emergency plan at Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport, sat on the Board of Directors at Lakeshore and at Glengarry Memorial Hospital, and established a practice in Alexandria. Never one to say no to accepting a new patient into his practice, his patients will remember him for his kind heart and his dedication to their care.
Outside of his devotion to his patients, he had a passion for horseback riding, and he passed on this love of animals to his daughters. He had a decorated competitive equestrian career, and he enjoyed adventurous rides each fall with the Lake of Two Mountains Hunt Club. He loved nothing more than a good cup of tea and being surrounded by his horses and his beloved dog Ben. On weekends he could be found sailing or skiing and at celebratory events he was known to be the last one out on the dance floor.
The memories of his life fully lived will be forever cherished by those he loved, and his spirit lives on in the thousands of lives he touched throughout his 54-year medical profession.
Those who would like to pay their respects are invited to attend a memorial mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Hudson, on Friday September 25th at 10:30 am. A private reception will follow for immediate family.
His family extends their profound gratitude to the nurses and doctors who provided exceptional care to him at Lakeshore General Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly requests charitable donations in Patrick’s honour to the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation. https://fondationlakeshore.ca/donate/
